The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find an outcry to include fresh award types to recognize unsung work and satisfy the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types actually cover many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
