Congress Passes Bill to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will require the publication of case documents concerning the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a almost unanimous vote in the lower house and a reversal by Donald Trump and his GOP allies. The administration relented after months of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a case that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Swift Approval in Congress

Senators proceeded by unanimous consent, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Hours earlier, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a 427-1 tally.

Citizens have been patient long enough. The survivors have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer declared in a floor speech on Tuesday, before asking the chamber to approve it without opposition. “Reveal the truth. Ensure full disclosure.”

Future Action

This legislation next will be sent to the president for his approval. The president stated on the previous day that he would sign the measure.

Though Trump has for months downplayed the outcry over the official management of the investigation as a “political stunt”, he voiced approval for the measure over the weekend, and announced he would give his assent if it is presented to him.

Response

The Democratic party, along with victims and their supporters who were seated in a viewing area, broke into applause after the bill was approved. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who said he was concerned the measure would make public personal information of people, those under scrutiny and others implicated in the investigation.
